And Skype just picked up.

A friend of mine today described to me a rather nasty bug in the Skype app for iPhone that he asked me to post on my blog, so here goes.

Conditions to reproduce the bug: a) Skype is open and currently the active app on the iPhone. b) You are able to receive text messages.

Now, when you receive a text message, do not yet acknowledge the notification pop-up in any way (let it sit there), and at the same moment have a Skype call come in: Skype will automatically connect your call without you doing anything. You might even miss the fact that the call got connected.

This method seems perfect to eavesdrop on somebody (who you know has the Skype app in the foreground, as unlikely as that may be); more likely is that you have, say, your mother inadvertently listening in on some private conversation. At any rate, this needs fixing.

I don’t know what exactly triggers this behaviour, but now there is yet another reason for Apple to revamp their notifications system—already arguably the iPhone’s biggest weak spot.

Today, reading tech news, I got some inspiration for my first tech related blog post. Surprisingly, it’s about Apple. A great deal has been written about these things already, so why another blog post? Quite simply because I can’t wrap my head around why this stuff is not instantly dismissed due to sheer obviousness, but read on for my opinion on the FTC—and now EU—investigation of the anti-competitiveness of Apple Inc. I’ll try to make it clear and keep it short.

Dear Reader,

I have long considered writing a blog, but I have never really decided on a topic. Well, interests are manifold and I don’t necessarily want to limit myself to one field.

So this will be a blog of many things, a smorgasbord of random thoughts and musings, if you will. I don’t know yet how often I will be writing stuff—and what the Apple tech news ratio will be (I know some of you might wish it were zero)—, but I will try to update the blog as often as I can. This is uncharted territory for me (I’ve spent the last couple of years on the other side of blogs), so please feel free to criticise and comment. I’m thankful for all feedback.

At any rate, dear friends, welcome. I hope you enjoy what you will find.
